Irritable Bowel Syndrome – Triggers, Symptoms and Steps To Heal

No one likes talking about what happens behind the bathroom door. Aside from embarrassment, for many people, the experience of “going #2” is uncomfortable and painful. If you experience unpleasant bowels on a regular basis, you may have something called irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

IBS Triggers

One trigger for IBS is diet. That’s why eliminating food allergens, including gluten, dairy, soy and yeast, is so important. Once you’ve eliminated these foods from your diet for about a month, you can slowly start reintroducing them one-by-one. If you notice IBS symptoms are triggered once again, then you know what foods to avoid in the future.

Other IBS triggers include stress, hormones and other illnesses.

Are You At Risk?

While IBS is common and can affect anyone, some people are at higher risk of IBS than others.

– IBS is more common in people under 45 years old.

– Approximately twice as many women than men have IBS.

– According to studies, people who have a family member with IBS may be at higher risk.

Get Checked

If you’re experiencing chronic signs and symptoms of IBS you should get checked by a doctor immediately and make sure you aren’t dealing with a more serious condition, such as Crohn’s Disease or colon cancer. Some signs of a more serious condition could include blood in your stool, severe abdominal pain and sudden weight loss.
