Bone Broth

Nowadays, we (as a culture) have a problem with what is called; ‘leaky gut’. What this means is there is intestinal permeability going on.

Normally, there are tight junctions between the intestinal cell membranes. When these tight junctions open up too wide, toxic material from the gut can get into the bloodstream. This overwhelms the liver and can cause allergies and many other ailments besides. Leaky gut can wreak havoc on our immune function and all the organs of our body.

In order to avoid ill health, autoimmune issues, food sensitivities and other health complications, the gut lining must be ‘healed and sealed’.

I like to think of bone broth like the ‘spackle for our guts’. Apply regularly to patch up the leaks and holes. However, that’s an over simplified statement because it really does so much more than that. Read more about all the marvelous benefits of broth here.

Gelatin

This is the collagen part of the bone broth. Read more about why we need gelatin in our diets and what it’s useful for.

Once you do, I promise you’ll be on a mission to start eating it regularly!

How To Make Bone Broth

So, you’ve never made bone broth a day in your life? Well, I bet your great grandmother did. And since your mother probably did not make it while you were growing up, you never thought to do so yourself.

Well, it’s pretty easy to do. It just requires actually trying it out. And finding quality ingredients from healthy grass fed or pastured animals. Check out my 3 basic recipes below to get started.

Recipes

How Much Broth Should You Consume Daily?

First off, let me say that everyone will be different in how much broth they can consume. One reason is that some people do not tolerate broth at first. In these cases, just making meat stock is the best option. (see info. on book below as it covers meat stock as well).

Starting out, one should make their bone broth on the shorter side and consume small amounts at first. Most people tolerate broth just fine. However, please note that it can cause a ‘healing reaction’ if you start out taking too much at once. If you plan to use it daily (like I do, and recommend) for a healing affect, start with a small amount and work your way up to several cups per day.
